"Iran has threatened to ban airlines from using its airspace if they refer to the waterway between Iran and Arab states as the "Arabian" instead of "Persian" Gulf." Admittedly a very creative way to censor. Let's hope India and China don't catch on. Most likely, the upshot would be no more in-flight mapping for affected flights.
Remarkable what a difference a week makes: Before, uploading photos to my favorite photo site Flickr meant foregoing their publication on Google Maps and Bing Maps. Now, suddenly, they are popping up on both. Upload once, and see them published on multiple platforms, That's how it should be, of course.
AP confirms yesterday's story on Xinhua: Google will review its Thai-Cambodia border in Google Earth and Maps in the area around Preah Vihear Temple, and confirms Tele Atlas is the source of the data.
Xinhua is China propaganda central and not always reputable, but if it is correct then Google is moving to do the right thing re this border. Also confirmed: It's Tele Atlas source material accuracy that is in question.
Yes, asking the ICJ to adjudicate on where the border should be near Preah Vihear Temple is a good idea — it's partially their fault for not being explicit enough back in 1962.
This is excellent news, as it means Google and Flickr are up for sharing their photos. Here's hoping Google Earth's next new layer is one of geotagged Flickr photos.
